I'm boarding my dog for the first time and I was looking for some advice?

Two weeks from now I'm going on vacation and I'll be boarding my dog for the first time. He's a two year old shih tzu and he's really spoiled and can be unfriendly at times. I was just wondering if anyone has any advice or tips on what I should do before I take him to relieve some stress and anxiety from the both of us???
