He is from Dallas, TX. His family does not believe in mixing Dark with light (skin). His sister married one of his cousins to preserve the bloodlines (light skin tone) His daughter attended Adelle Turner Elementary school years after I did. One of his sisters used to baby-sit my younger brother and me. His mother asked my mother when I was a young child to be a surrogate mother to one of their relatives who had married a darker woman, so his wife would not give him a dark child (my mother is a little lighter than Stead with straight hair) Finally He and his daughter's mother did not make it because she was too dark and his mother wasn't having it.
